Living in the Maplewood neighborhood in, Portland Oregon
Maplewood is one of those Southwest Portland neighborhoods that can feel surprisingly removed from the city. A lot of clients tell us that it has a distinct “rural” feel to it. Set along Portland’s western edge between Garden Home and Multnomah Village, it’s a neighborhood of rolling hills, creeks, mature trees, and winding residential streets—many of which end in quiet cul-de-sacs and loops rather than following east Portland’s street grid.
Maplewood sits between two useful hubs: Multnomah Village to the east and the shops and services around Garden Home to the west.
NEIGHOBRHOOD FAVORITES
Maplewood Coffee & Tea: A coffee, pastry, and beer hub in the middle of this quiet neighborhood is an absolute gem. Occasional neighborhood gatherings like Friday pizza nights and bingo nights bring a strong sense of community to the neighborhood.
Multnomah Village: Maplewood borders the Multnomah Village neighborhood which makes the village walkable or bikeable from Maplewood. The French Quarter, John’s Marketplace, Proper Pint, Level Beer, Tastebud Pizza, and a handful of great eats are some of our favorites.
April Hill Park: A hidden park sandwiched between two dead end roads with a large field, playground, and walking path through the woods.
Gabriel Park: 89 acres that include sports fields, summer and winter dog parks, pickleball courts, miles of walking trails, a skate park, and huge playground.
Old Market Pub: A perfect easy night out or place to gather a large group. House beers and pub food with tons of indoor and outdoor seating.
REAL ESTATE
The housing is varied, but mid-century homes and ranches are a large part of the neighborhood’s character. Renowned mid-century modern architect John Storrs designed a handful of homes here. You’ll also find a decent amount of newer infill construction from 2005 and on that are set on standard to larger lots in the neighborhood.
